Cottonwood Heights sits on a ridge between the Big and Little Cottonwood Creek valleys, and nearly a third of its homes were built in the 1970s. It only became a city in 2005, but most of its garages are older than that by decades.
The 1970s split levels. The core of the city. Many of these doors still have original tracks and hinges, extension springs along the tracks, and an opener that has been replaced once or twice. The most common Cottonwood Heights call is a system overhaul: new springs, rollers, cables, and hinges in one visit, often with a conversion to torsion springs. It gets a 50 year old door running quietly for a fraction of a new one.
