Midvale incorporated in 1909 around Main Street, and it has been building ever since. About one in six homes predates 1960, and nearly one in five was built after 2010. Few cities in the valley have that wide a spread, and the garage doors show it.
Old Midvale. The homes near Main Street and the original town grid often have detached or single car garages, some with old wood or tilt up doors and limited headroom. Wall mount openers and properly sized sectional doors solve most of the problems we see here.
1970s and 1980s neighborhoods. The ramblers and split levels east toward Fort Union and west of State Street are 40 to 50 years old. Many still run extension springs along the tracks, and the openers are past their life. A system overhaul, often with a torsion conversion, is the usual answer.
Bingham Junction and the new townhomes. Bingham Junction was built on the former Sharon Steel mill site, and communities like Holmes Homes’ Central 72, Henry Walker’s Kimpton Square, and Garbett’s Wasatch Place added hundreds of townhomes with tuck under garages. These doors are newer, and the calls are sensors out of alignment, keypads never programmed, dented panels that have to match for the HOA, and openers straining on doors that were never balanced after install.
