Almost half of Holladay’s homes were built in the 1950s and 1960s, and the city’s median home dates to 1969. That makes it one of the older housing stocks in the county, with a lot of garages that were designed before automatic openers were standard.
1950s and 1960s ramblers. Many have single or narrow double garages, low headroom, and framing that wasn’t built to carry a ceiling mounted opener. We see openers hanging from undersized brackets, doors that were cut down to fit, and old one piece doors converted to sectional doors without the right hardware. A wall mount opener beside the door is often the cleaner fix, and we’ll measure before we recommend anything.
Extension springs and missing cables. Doors from this era frequently run on extension springs, and the safety cables that keep a broken spring from whipping loose are often gone. We add them, or convert the door to torsion springs.
Estate lots and custom doors. Holladay’s larger lots have custom homes with heavy wood, carriage style, and oversized doors. Heavy doors need springs wound for their actual weight and openers rated for it.
1970s homes. The split levels from the 1970s are 50 years in, with original tracks and hinges that are worn through. A system overhaul usually brings them back.
Trees. Holladay’s mature trees are part of its character, and they’re also why we see doors dented by falling limbs after windstorms. We replace single sections matched to the rest of the door.
