What Breaks in Magna: A Mill Town and a Growing West Side

Magna grew up around the Magna Mill, which opened in 1906, on the site of the Pleasant Green farm settlement. Most of old town went up between about 1904 and 1929, followed by company housing in the 1940s and subdivisions spreading south after the war. Magna became its own city in 2024, and it is still growing on the south and west sides.

Old town. Foursquares and bungalows from the mill era often have no attached garage at all, or a detached garage added later. Openings are rarely a standard size and headroom is limited. We measure and order sectional doors built to the opening, and use wall mount openers where a ceiling unit won’t fit.

Postwar and 1970s neighborhoods. The homes south of old town, including a large share built in the 1970s, have doors 45 years and older. Extension springs without safety cables, worn tracks and rollers, and openers without working sensors are the usual calls. A system overhaul or a torsion conversion usually fixes all of it in one visit.

Newer homes. Hundreds of units have been added since 2020. New doors mean new house calls: tracks releveled after settling, sensors realigned, keypads programmed.

Wind off the Oquirrhs. The west side sits against the Oquirrh foothills and gets more wind than the valley floor. A door that bows in a storm needs horizontal struts, which we add in one visit.
